Case Study - Flexible Work Hours - Supporting the reduction of traffic congestion

A State Government Agency recently requested help with a project to reduce traffic congestion and commuter overload on public transport during peak hours. A key component of this project was to educate and support businesses in the implementation of a range of flexible work arrangements. The intention was to stagger start and finish times for staff and, where possible, to assist them in working from home. The concept is one that has been tried and extensively tested in the UK. The research shows that in cities where this has been successful (especially London) there has been a considerable reduction in the congestion on the roads as well as pressure on public transport.

Managing Work|Life Balance International researched, wrote and produced a series of Flexible Work Implementation Guides for business. These have been used by businesses and are available on the Agency’s website.
